Your guide for Route 66 travel information, attractions, planning and hotel accommodations.

Pick a State or City to explore

Exiting Barstow, Route 66 follows Main Street southwest out of town through small establishments like Helendale and Oro Grande. You're still trekking across the Mojave Desert, just as you have since you entered California, but on the horizon the San Bernardino and San Gabriel Mountains begin to beckon; on the other side is the Los Angeles-San Bernardino megalopolis.

This stretch is also known as the "Sagebrush Route", and before Interstate 15 opened to the west in 1958, this was the road that people from Hollywood and L.A. took to Vegas – making it quite busy on the weekends.
