Las Vegas

As you exit Santa Rosa, a familiar city name pops up on the green road signs - "Las Vegas - 65 miles." Can it be? Has your drive really taken you that far north? Well, no. You're not in Las Vegas, Nevada - you're headed towards Las Vegas, New Mexico, a featured stop along the original, pre-1937 Route 66, known as the Santa Fe Loop.

This Las Vegas is a historic city, sitting comfortably at the foot of hills and mountains in Santa Fe National Forest. Whether you are stopping to rest on your way to Albuquerque or staying in Las Vegas itself, there is plenty to do while you're in town.

The City of Las Vegas Museum & Rough Rider Memorial is perfect for history buffs, with particular interest in Teddy Roosevelt. The Montezuma Hot Springs are also just a short drive or hike away for the more outdoor-inclined. Another popular event is the Rough Rider Motorcycle Rally, which rolls through town every July.
