Past Tucumcari, Route 66 follows today's Interstate 40 for a quite a while. One interesting stop is at Exit 291, which is Cuervo, New Mexico.

Home to a gas station on the north side of I-40 and mostly abandoned buildings on the south side, Cuervo is almost a ghost town, but not quite. Its population was 128 back in 1946; today, it seems as if one or two of the houses have people living in them, with the rest of the structures in town abandoned. Oddly fascinating.
