Bluewater

Continuing west along Interstate 40, the town of Bluewater mostly serves as a stop before Prewitt: the gateway to Bluewater Lake State Park. However, as you pass through, be on the lookout for the old Bluewater Motel – a relic of the old northern New Mexico Route 66.

Just five miles west of Prewitt, at 7,275 feet above sea level, make sure and get a glimpse of the Continental Divide: the watershed separation point, where rainfall east of it eventually reaches the Atlantic Ocean and rainfall west of it flows into the Pacific. Apart from being a very important milestone, here there is also collection of Native American trading posts and some nice vistas.
