Continuing west towards Groom, you'll spot the leaning tower of which we speak – and it ain't Pisa. It's the leaning Britten Water Tower. What caused the lean? A tornado? Earthquake? Inattentive pilot? No – it was simply a desire for marketing. Businessman Ralph Britten bought the water towers from the townspeople of nearby Lefors and re-planted it in front of his truck stop, crooked on purpose.

The other big feature in Groom is a 190-foot cross, the landmark of the Groom-based Cross of Our Lord Jesus Ministries. Erected in 1995, it weighs two and a half million pounds and is visible for miles up and down Route 66 and Interstate 40.
