You'll find parts of Weatherford are a little out of this world. In fact, this plains community is home to the Stafford Air & Space Museum, named for astronaut and native son Thomas Stafford who commanded the 1975 Apollo-Soyuz mission. Check out the exhibits from the Hubble Telescope, Russia's Mir Space Station, and a rock from the Moon during your visit. Weatherford is also home to Southwestern Oklahoma State University.

Route 66 parallels, and in some cases is fully supplanted by Interstate 40 on much of the stretch past Weatherford, but the original road veers off again into Clinton, where it is posted a Business Loop Interstate 40 and Historic Route 66.
A newer attraction lies along I-40 – the Heartland of America Museum features exhibits and artifacts from the early days of Clinton right on up through the 1950s. Clinton was home to the National Highway 66 Association for a 30 year span, spurring more interest in the Mother Road to the point where it became the site of the first state-sponsored Route 66 museum in the nation, and today it's the biggest attraction for road trippers: the Oklahoma Route 66 Museum. Included in the museum are vintage cars, signs, and the world's largest curio cabinet.
