Pick a State or City to explore

Considered the halfway point between Oklahoma City and Amarillo, Texas, Sayre is a small community featuring the typical charm and history found all along Route 66.

Sayre has a nice city park along Route 66, along with two museums – the Shortgrass Country Museum and the RS & K Railroad Museum, featuring model trains and railroad displays. The city celebrates its Route 66 connection with the annual Route 66 Hoot 'n' Scoot & Poker Run, held on Main Street. Sayre's Chamber of Commerce has all the details.

You know that song "King of the Road?" You’ll feel like it while trekking across western Oklahoma. Roger Miller, who hails from Erick, sang that 1965 classic, which lead to a museum dedicated to Roger Miller opening downtown in 2004.

People come and go in these small towns, and one guy who grew up here, left, and then came back is Harley Russell, who along with his wife Annabelle created a very unique place featuring everything from an art gallery to a curio shop to a music performance venue. Their shop proclaims Erick as the "Redneck Capital of the World." It's the kind of place people stop at for just a minute and then end up spending an hour or two, so plan your visit accordingly.
