Will Rogers is pretty much Oklahoma's favorite son. He has a major interstate turnpike, Oklahoma's biggest airport, lakes, schools, and everything else you can imagine named after him. Claremore proudly notes that Will Rogers was born and raised here, and his legacy lives on in both monuments on the boulevard of Route 66 slicing through town, and through artifacts at the Will Rogers Memorial Museum, which overlooks the city.
Claremore is home to Rogers State University, the only four-year public university in the Tulsa area. The city counts as a Tulsa suburb – downtown Tulsa is only about 20 minutes away.
Trivia: The musical Oklahoma! is set in Claremore.
