Nestled along the Meramec River, Route 66 State Park is a 419-acre park featuring a visitor center and gift shop, along with a wide variety of artifacts from Missouri's share of the Mother Road. The park also offers plenty of picnicking sites, a boat launch, and great bird watching opportunities, as over 40 species may be spotted at certain times throughout the year.
Much of Route 66 SP lies on the west side of the river, which you must cross on Interstate 44 just a few hundred feet to the south coming from St. Louis and eastern Missouri – you’ll get a great view of the old Route 66 bridge from the highway.
At Exit 261, Route 66 leaves I-44. To the north lies Six Flags St. Louis; a major theme park nestled in the hills, featuring thrill rides and roller coasters set against the backdrop of tree-covered bluffs.
