Right as you cross the Missouri-Kansas state line, you'll find yourself in Galena, a city known for its long mining history and old Route 66 landmarks. Upon entering the city, you’ll make your way over an original 1923 bridge, offering you a view of the Eagle-Pilcher plant.
After crossing on the bridge, Route 66 heads into Galena's downtown district where old 66 meets new 66 (today's Kansas Highway 66) and begins to head west. You'll find the Galena Mining & Historical Museum on your right. Once the Galena train station for the former M-K-T railroad, today the museum features locomotives, parts, memorabilia, and more.
On your way west out of Galena, a number of former gas stations and diners line the road as you head to the next town.
