Mount Olive

When you’re heading down Route 66 in western Illinois, there is one specific icon that awaits you in Mount Olive: Soulsby Service Station.

Listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places, the Soulsby Service Station, this classic gas station was established in 1926, and is said to be the longest running service station on Route 66 in Illinois.

And quickly connecting back to Virden, Mount Olive is home to the Union Miners Cemetery – where many of the Battle of Virden miners and Mary Harris "Mother" Jones herself is buried. And no those dates don't lie, the Grave of Mother Jones lets visitors know the old activist lived to be 100 years old.
