For explorers of Route 66 in central Illinois, McLean means one thing: the Dixie Travel Plaza. Formerly the Dixie Truck Stop and the Dixie Trucker's Home, the Dixie Travel Plaza was established along Historic Route 66 in 1928.
Though found in the Route 66 Association of Illinois Hall of Fame, the Dixie is still in operation today as a restaurant, gas station, and small but free museum dedicated to Route 66 history and heritage.
Other fun stops in McLean include Village Square Park (great for picnics), and the Arcadia Games – yet another way to step into the past in central Illinois. Also known as the America's Playable Arcade Museum, Arcadia Games features classic arcade games and pinball machines.
