Just 50 miles outside of downtown Chicago, Braidwood is a spot along Route 66 where we hope you show up hungry. Braidwood is home to the iconic, the famed, the celebrated Polk-A-Dot Drive In – the quintessential roadside diner.
Set right along Route 66, Polk-A-Dot Drive In is a well-known retro diner – serving up American fare like burgers, shakes, and fries since 1956. The second best part? Life-size figures of 1950s icons like of Marilyn Monroe, James Dean, Blues Brother, and of course, Elvis. What better way to show off the fun you’re having on Route 66 than a photo with Betty Boop?
And if you’re not done taking photos, head down to the Braidwood Zoo – what is actually a wacky collection of animal statues by distinct sculptor Jack Barker. Other attractions in Braidwood include the Braidwood Museum in a Historic Train Depot, plus outdoor fun at spots like Shadow Lakes, Braidwood Lake, and the Braidwood Dunes & Savannah.
